Take center stage with Rylie Reed | News, Sports, Jobs

Rylie Reed loves the challenge of learning something new.

The idea of figuring something out and becoming excellent at it is what led the Fort Dodge high school student to get involved in the fine arts.

“I started playing when I realized I liked the challenge of learning an instrument,” said Reed.

Reed, who served as drum major for the Fort Dodge Senior High All-American Dodger Marching Band, enjoys being involved in music.

“I love making music with other people and the friends you make,” Reed said. “It’s a lot harder for me to lead the band than to sing because our performance relies more on me when I’m leading than when I’m singing along.

Reed, who began performing in fifth grade, is involved with the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, A Capella Choir, and Springtime Musicals, as well as the National Honor Society.

Throughout her Dodger career, Reed has been involved in numerous performances.

“I’ve been in several plays and musicals over the years,” Reed said. “I participated in musicals in middle school and early high school as well as the high school cabaret in 2021.

“I was also involved in our high school jazz band and wind ensemble. I also played solos, duos, trios and small ensembles during competitions.

Reed enjoyed his time at Fort Dodge Senior High and learned a lot along the way.

“Some of my biggest influences have been all of the educators,” Reed said. “They led me to the next chapter towards my future.

After graduating, Reed plans to attend Iowa State University at Ames to major in biology before attending medical school.
