SoundCloud teams up with Warner Music Group for a new initiative

SoundCloud announced a new global licensing agreement with Warner Music Group (WMG).

Thanks to this agreement, WMG becomes the first major label to adopt the SoundCloud model, Fan-Fueled Royalties (RPF). FPR is a first-to-market payment model directly driven by an artist’s fan base.

Each listener’s subscription or ad revenue is split among the artists they listen to, rather than their plays being grouped together in a traditional model. Thus, FPR levels the playing field for independent artists by linking payments to fan engagement.

“Warner Music Group is known for developing some of today’s biggest superstars and helping them build long-term careers by investing in technologies and models that grow and support their fan communities. great for SoundCloud and we’re excited to bring our groundbreaking, fan-focused product to their amazing roster of artists.” said Elijah Setonpresident of SoundCloud, in a press release.

With this new partnership, all artists signed under WMG will be able to take advantage of the benefits offered by SoundCloud’s RPF. Artists can now forge deeper connections with their fan base with greater transparency. Likewise, fans will now directly influence how their favorite artists get paid, leading to additional music engagement on the music platform.
