Nosotros returns to his hometown for Saturday’s show

LAS CRUCES – Latin group Nosotros returns to Las Cruces on Saturday night for their first home performance since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nosotros are a nine-piece group that debuted as a guitar trio in Las Cruces in 1994. The band’s composition and sound have evolved over the years, but their music is generally described as a mix of rock, salsa, jazz and cumbia.

They have been well recognized by the New Mexico Music Awards over the years for “Album of the Year”, “Best Latin Song”, “Best Arrangement” among other categories. They recently performed at the Albuquerque Museum Amphitheater to kick off Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s re-election campaign.

The group is scheduled to perform on July 10 at 7 p.m. at Picacho Peak Brewing Co.’s Grapevine Plaza Mainstage. It will be their first performance in their hometown since the start of the pandemic. Tickets cost $ 10 each and can be purchased online at Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Drummer Dennis Jasso said the band typically performs in Las Cruces two to three times a year. He said it was difficult at first to predict what the summer months were going to bring, but they had their first in-person performance in late May and have booked dates since then.

“It was like the floodgates were opening,” Jasso said of the reservations. “It feels like there’s a new appreciation for live music, as a lot of people haven’t been able to see live music for quite a while there.”

Jasso said attendees can expect to hear many of their original songs and that their lead singer, Felipe Ruibal, will join as a featured artist.

The opening will be the musical group Nohé and Sus Santos. The group debuted in 2018 with members Nohelia Sosa (singer, songwriter Honduran), Randy Sanchez (guitarist), Justin Bransford (bassist) and Dennis Jasso (drummer), who also perform with Nosotros.

Nohe & Sus Santos was nominated in the New Mexico Music Award categories. Saturday will be the group’s first performance at Las Cruces.

Randy Sanchez, tres and guitarist, said the band will perform songs from their 2020 album, “Tempestad.” He is one of the founding members of Nosotros and of Nohe & Sus Santos.

Sanchez is from El Paso / Las Cruces and said he was excited to perform in front of a hometown crowd and show everything the two bands have been working on.

Nosotros band members include Glenn Contreras (vocals), Carlos Fontana (vocals), Shane Derk (guitar), Randy Sanchez (tres, guitar), Ziggy Garcia (trumpet), Manuel Ramirez (saxophone), Chadd James (saxophone), Gilbert Uribe (bass), Ricky Carrido (congas), Jesse Joaquin Parker (vibraphone, percussion) and Dennis Javier Jasso (drums).
