Meet Tiverton RI High School’s Top 10 Students of the Class of 2022

Tiverton High School has announced the following students as the top 10 for the Class of 2022.

Valedictorian – Elise C. Flanagan

Elise is the daughter of Holly and Thomas Flanagan. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the RI Honor Society. She received the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award from the University of Rochester. She is a Carson Scholar.

In her senior year, she received State House Recognition, State House of Representatives Recognition, Newport County Retired Teachers Association Scholarship, Outstanding Student in science in the study of biology, the David S. Frerichs Jr. Memorial Fellowship, and the American Mathematical Society Award. .

She played Varsity Field Hockey and is a member of the Drama Club, Peer Helping Network, Gay Straight Alliance and Band. Elise will attend the University of Vermont majoring in neuroscience.

Salutatorian — Katherine Zmich

Katherine is the daughter of Michael and Susan Zmich. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the RI Honor Society. She has received the Diana Cruz Memorial Scholarship, Lieutenant Governor’s Leadership Award, State House Recognition, State House of Representatives Recognition.

Catherine Zmich

Katherine has received the Outstanding Math Student Award, Best Overall Science Student, Outstanding Science Student in the Study of Chemistry, Student Council Membership Award, and Best Overall Student Council Member Award. She played soccer and lacrosse.

Katherine is a member of the Peer Helping Network, Student Council and Board of Trustees. She is a Clean Ocean Access intern, a volunteer for the Middletown Rotary event, an acolyte at Holy Trinity Church and a Seapowet Beach Cleanup Organizer.

Katherine will attend the University of Rhode Island majoring in Chemical Engineering and minoring in Environmental Engineering.

3. Emma Baker

Emma is the daughter of Thomas and Julie Baker. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the RI Honor Society. Emma has received the St. Michael’s College Book Award for Academic Achievement and Social Awareness, State Senate Recognition, State House of Representatives Recognition, The Honorable Edward Memorial Scholarship P. Sowa, Jr., Lion’s Club Scholarship, Outstanding Computer Technology Student, David N. Cicilline Congressional Leadership Award, Benjamin M. Wordell Memorial Scholarship, 1986 Carolyn St. Michel Fellowship, student council membership and the student council’s fieriest award.

Emma Baker

She is President of the Gay Straight Alliance, Vice President of the Senior Class, Class Officer of the Drama Club, Mock Trial, Readers’ Forum, Chess Club and Political Engagement. Emma has spent over 100 hours volunteering for the organization “Who Am I Anyway?” and a student representative on the school committee.

She wrote and directed the short film “White Noise” produced by the Newport County Prevention Coalition, which was featured in The Sakonnet Times and premiered at Tiverton High School in April. Emma completed an internship for the Prepare RI program in the summer of 2021.

She will attend Wellesley College majoring in psychology and English.

4.Ryan Snell

Ryan is the son of Thomas and Ellen Snell. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the RI Honor Society. He has received State House of Representatives Recognition, State Senate Recognition, Conrad Beaulieu Memorial Scholarship, Lion’s Club Scholarship, Outstanding Student in Physical/Health Education, student council membership, the school’s most animated student council, and the James M. Saunders Award for Scientific Excellence. He received the NSDC Award for Academic Growth and Student Leadership in Learning and the Sage Student Award.

Ryan Snell

He played in the band and was a student council member. He is an Eagle Scout and a church pianist. Ryan will attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute majoring in geology.

5. Avery Carvalho

Avery is the daughter of Rania and Ricardo Carvalho. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the RI Honor Society. She has received recognition from the State House of Representatives and recognition from the State Senate, Future Business Leaders of America Who’s Who, Future Business Leaders of America 5th place Social Media Strategy, Tiverton Prevention Coalition – Dr. William White Scholarship, the Fredrick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award, and RI General Treasurer Seth Magaziner Young Leader Award.

Avery Carvalho

School activities include RI Future Business Leaders of America State President, Tiverton Future Business Leaders of America, Political Engagement Club, Unified Tigers, and the Readers’ Forum. She is a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leader, Whitman Scholar and National Competitor for Future Business Leaders. Avery will attend Syracuse University majoring in finance.

6. Keira McQueen

Keira is the daughter of Thomas and Cindy McQueen. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the RI Honor Society. She has received recognition from the State Senate and recognition from the State House of Representatives, the Conrad Beaulieu Memorial Scholarship, and the Lion’s Club Scholarship.

Keira is a member of the volleyball team. She is a co-chair of the Tiverton Prevention Coalition, a volunteer for the Newport Rotary Club, a member of the Brown University Youth Advisory Council, and has participated in the National Honor Society’s toy drive. Keira will attend the University of Vermont majoring in biology.

7. Molly Richardson

Richardson is the daughter of Joy and Robert Richardson. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the RI Honor Society. She has received State House of Representatives Recognition, State Senate Recognition, Tiverton Athletic Boosters Scholarship, Hector S. Levesque Memorial Award, Michael McCarthy Memorial Scholarship, George Eastman Young Leaders Award from the University of Rochester, the Outstanding Student in Science in the Study of Physics, the Student Council Membership Award, and the Outstanding Student Award in Undergraduate Social Studies.

Molly Richardson

She is a member of the volleyball, basketball and track and field teams. Activities include Student Council Senior Class President, Portuguese Club, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Hugh Cole Elementary School, Tiverton Up With Schools Arts Summer Camp and Tiverton Junior Basketball League .

Molly will be attending St. John’s University majoring in International Management.

8. Isabel Del Deo

Isabel is the daughter of Staci and Ben Del Deo. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the RI Honor Society. Isabel has received recognition from the State House of Representatives, recognition from the State Senate, the Benjamin M. Wordell Memorial Scholarship, the Tiverton Athletic Boosters Scholarship, the David S. Frerichs Jr. Memorial36 Scholarship and the NEA-Tiverton.

Isabelle Del Deo

She is a member of tennis and athletics. In tennis, she reached 2nd Team All Division, 2nd Team Division 3 in singles and an Athlete of the Week at the Newport Daily News. Its activities include student council, future business leaders of America, yearbook and choir. Isabel will attend Salve Regina University majoring in Psychology.

9. Kaylie Cabral

Cabral is the daughter of Steven Cabral and Karen Logan. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the RI Honor Society. Kaylie received recognition from the State Senate and recognition from the State House of Representatives.

She played volleyball and received the all-division second team. She enjoys skeet shooting and has been active with Special Olympics. Kaylie will attend the CCRI.

10. Paige Klos

Paige is the daughter of Bethany Pierce Klos and Richard Klos. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the RI Honor Society. She has received State Senate Recognition, State House of Representatives Recognition, Aspiring Educator Award, Herbert & Claihorne Pell History Medal, and she placed 5th in the State Leadership Conference for Future Business Leaders of America for Social Media Strategy.

Paige Klos

Paige has completed 640 hours of community service. She played field hockey her sophomore, junior and senior years, the mock trial team her sophomore and junior years, Future Business Leaders of America her sophomore and junior years. She has volunteered at Pocasset Elementary School and at the Grades 7-10 Art and Literacy Camp.

Paige will attend Rogers Williams University majoring in Elementary Education
