Foo Fighters: “We’re gonna make this low-budget slasher movie…it just snowballed into a feature” – Music News

Today on Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa we chat with The Foo Fighters. They talk about their next movie and talk about the most disgusting thing that happened in their van.

THE FOO FIGHTERS TALK ABOUT THE GROSSEST THING THAT HAPPENED IN THEIR VAN AND THE BEST CAMEO OF THEIR NEW FILM

WIPPA Movie clips continued on and on. I mean, the one on the plane where you play all the characters there. I mean, it’s something you’ve always loved doing. So to move on to a movie like this. That’s not out of character was obviously your idea Dave?

FOO FIGHTERS Years ago, like three years ago, I have a friend who works in the industry. And he went to a meeting and he walked out of the meeting and texted me saying I was just in a meeting. And these people want to make a horror movie with the Foo Fighters. And I texted him back. I think to myself, this is the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard in my life. There is no way we will. It’s totally ridiculous. Why would we do something so stupid. And then we rented this house to write and record the new disc. And while we were in there, kind of doing demos and working on the music, I thought, wait a second, we’ve got the house. We might wish we were done making the record, because we made the record in the house that let you see the movie. Once we are done with the file. We’re just going to take a few weeks off and then make this very fast-paced, low-budget slasher movie. And then it snowballed into a feature film.

FITZY Chris Is there a bit of Evil Dead in the movie? What are some of the inspirational horror films over the years that inspired you for this film?

FOO FIGHTERS thinks it references a lot of classics. You know, like there’s some kind of repository all the way through, not just in old horror movies, but in all the heavy metal and punk rock stuff that we grew up with. I think it’s all in the mix.

FITZY Dave is this your original van before nirvana? Are you in a band called Scream? Is your original van in the movie?

FOO FIGHTERS It’s not the screaming man. It’s the red truck the Foo Fighters first toured in 26 years ago. This is the big cameo. Like yes, Carrie King from Slayers. Lionel Richie. He’s in the movie. It’s pretty cool. But our van, the van made an appearance. And we still use it all the time.

FITZY And you also have a great documentary. If anyone has a chance, what motivates us, which is amazing. Are there horror stories of the van or are they the best stories of all time?

DAVE GROHL Oh, my God. Yeah, well, the most disgusting thing that ever happened in that van is you know, after the gigs we’d like to put the gear back in the van, it was usually like sweaty and totally soaked. And I took one of my T-shirts and just threw it in the back of the van. And then about a month later the back of the van opened up, I saw the t-shirt on the carpet on the floor, I picked it up and there were mushrooms growing.

WIPPA That should have made the movie. There’s your inspiration right there. It’s amazing. That’s how you came across mushrooms. wow.

FOO FIGHTERS Yeah and I stumbled for about 26 hours. Surprising. The best mushrooms I’ve ever had.

FITZY The horror genre is over now and you have mastered this. I mean, what’s the next kind? Do we have a rom movie coming out? Or is there something in the plans?

FOO FIGHTERS We have some ideas. We have a few that could be sci-fi or romantic comedy. Yeah, that could be an adventure. Can be animated. I mean, that’s the thing with the Foo Fighters. We’re shapeshifters okay, we can bounce from one medium-to-medium genre to another. There’s nothing we can’t do. Wow, there it is.
