Duran Duran will perform in a small reunion room
Duran Duran has announced two small shows in his hometown of Birmingham.
Duran Duran will take the stage at the city’s O2 Institute, with a capacity of 1,500 seats, on September 14 and 15, where they will perform songs from their highly anticipated album, “FUTURE PAST”, which will follow on October 22. .
Duran Duran’s final track from their upcoming 15th studio album, ‘MORE JOY !, features all-female Japanese punk group CHAI.
The song was born out of a jam session with Blur’s Graham Coxon, who featured on the previous single ‘INVISIBLE’, and DJ and producer Erol Alkan.
Keyboardist Nick Rhodes said, “The song ‘MORE JOY!’ was born from a crazy jam with Duran Duran, Graham Coxon and Erol Alkan. It was such an unusual piece that we weren’t quite sure it would fit in at first. It reminded me of one of those retro Japanese video games, which I’ve always found quite uplifting. We started the song “more joy” early on, and that became the key to the rest of the song. We all agreed that it would sound really good with Japanese female vocals, and that’s when Simon got the inspired idea to ask CHAI if they could possibly collaborate with us. Much to our joy, they agreed, and the result certainly brought some incredible new energy to the song. They are so special !! “
In recommending CHAI, Simon said, “Nick suggested girl voices on ‘MORE JOY!’ and I knew exactly where to find them – CHAI, an all-female post-modern Japanese punk band whose energy and pure sense of fun might actually blow your ears! We are honored to have sprinkled them with their neon pink magic powder on our song. Now it’s “MORE JOY!” (feat. CHAI). CHAI – loved forever! “
CHAI added: “We are full of joy! When Duran Duran asked us to join their new song, we listened to it and we thought “it’s alive, rock, cool and fun”, and we danced! We added our vocals to their rock sound, making it even more “MORE JOY”! Because we are MORE JOY. Thanks Duran Duran!
The 2015 sequel to “Paper Gods” also features Swedish pop star Tove Lo on “GIVE IT ALL UP”, German rapper Ivoirian Doll on “HAMMERHEAD” and longtime David Bowie keyboardist Mike Garson on the track. “FALLING” closing.
